MEDIA WATCHDOG: Comcast tries to satisfy Redskins and Ravens fans

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Comcast SportsNet mid-Atlantic will now have pre and postgame shows for both the Ravens as well as the Redskins. Viewers are already quite familiar with wildly popular Redskins Kickoff and Redskins Post Game Live with Chick Hernandez, analysts Brian Mitchell and Trevor Matich and Redskins television beat reporter Kelli Johnson.

Ravens Kickoff and Ravens Post Game Live will be hosted by the versatile CSN anchor Chris Miller who does such a fine job covering the Wizards. He will be joined by analyst’s former NFL players Brad Jackson and Antonio Freeman. Another familiar face on the broadcast team will be Brett Harris who has done a good job serving as the network’s Baltimore reporter and Ravens beat reporter.

Ravens Kickoff and Ravens Post Game Live will both make their debut September 11th opening day as the Ravens host the Steelers. Ravens Kickoff will air at noon and Ravens Post Game Live will air after the game around 4pm.

That same day Sunday September 11th the Redskins are at home to face the Giants in a Fox national game that will get underway at 4:15pm. So that will mean that Redskins Kickoff will begin at 3pm and Redskins Post Game Live will air after the game around 7:30pm.

Here is what you need to know from a fans standpoint:

All of the Redskins Kickoff broadcasts will be seen on the entire CSN network. There will be a select number of Ravens Kickoff shows (the total has yet to be determined) however they will not conflict with Redskins Kickoff so both programs will be seen over the entire CSN network.

Now here is where things get a little tricky starting with the second week of the season the Ravens will be on the road facing the Titians while the Redskins will beat home to face the Cardinals with both games starting at 1pm.

Redskins Post Game live will be seen in the Nielsen designated Washington television market meaning all of the CSN network south of Columbia, Maryland. Meanwhile Ravens Post Game Live will air in the Nielsen Baltimore market which covers everything north of Columbia which includes Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

CSN is splitting their feed to best serve the fans of both the Redskins and the Ravens.  At present they simply do not have the ability to feed both postgame shows to their entire region via CSN Plus. The goal was to get the programming on the air and to serve the viewers with the most interest in their home team.  The split feed for postgame shows could be for as many as six games but it depends on the flex scheduling.

This also means that Ravens and Redskins fans who are stuck in this zone will have to rely on the radio for their postgame. They will have to go old school with the Ravens having WBAL 1090am in Baltimore and the powerful 1500 WFED-AM in Washington to cover them. Meanwhile Skins fans have ESPN 980AM and don’t forget that Washington is the only team in the NFL that streams their games for free on the web via ESPN 980AM website. So you are covered from that standpoint.
