OWINGS MILLS — Turning their focus toward the secondary, the Baltimore Ravens hosted four defensive back draft prospects for official visits Friday.
That included: Central Florida cornerback Josh Robinson, the fastest player at the NFL scouting combine, LSU cornerback Ron Brooks, Syracuse safety Philip Thomas and Pitt cornerback Buddy Jackson.
Robinson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.33 seconds at the combine. He had the top broad jump among the defensive backs with an 11-1 showing and the best three-cone drill with a 6.55 clocking, finishing third with a 38 1/2 inch vertical leap.
The first-team All-Conference USA selection intercepted 10 passes and had 36 pass deflections over the past three seasons. Last season, he had 22 tackles, eight pass deflections and two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown.
Two seasons ago, Robinson had 59 tackles, two interceptions, 13 pass deflections and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.
As a freshman after choosing UCF over Auburn, Michigan, Clemson and South Florida, Robinson intercepted six passes with 69 tackles, one fumble recovery and eight pass deflections.
Brooks has played in every game over the past four years, intercepting two passes last season and returned both for touchdowns.
His three career interceptions were all returned for touchdowns. He’s known for his versatility, lining up at several positions for the Tigers.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds at the combine, registering a 38-inch vertical leap, a 10-foot broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 12 times.
He set a career-high with six tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery against Arkansas.
He was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week against Ole Miss when he had a sack, a forced fumble he recovered and returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown.
His father, Anthony Brooks, played for the Chicago Bears.
Thomas is a 5-foot-11, 198-pounder who ran a 4.74 at the combine and a 4.72 at his Pro Day.
He had a 33-inch vertical leap and a 10-2 broad jump and a 9-9 broad jump.
Thomas led Syracuse with six interceptions and 82 tackles as a junior, declaring early for the draft rather than serve a year-long suspension for violating athletic department policy.
Jackson is a speedy 6-foot-1, 187-pounder with 4.37 speed who also excelled on special teams.
He averaged 23.6 yards and returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown and had 34 tackles and recovered a fumble.
At his Pro Day workout, he had a 40-inch vertical leap, an 11-8 broad jump, a 7.11 three-cone drill and bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times.
