OWINGS MILLS — Boise State outside linebacker Shea McClellin is a rising draft prospect, one worth keeping in mind for the Baltimore Ravens’ first-round draft pick.

McClellin visited or worked out for a total of 11 NFL teams.

That included visits or workouts with the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns.

Among the other teams that are logical fits for McClellin and believed to have interest in him: the Ravens, San Diego Chargers, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets.

McClellin is considered a potential first-round draft target expected to go no later than early in the second round.

McClellin is a fast-rising draft prospect because of his relentless style, pass-rushing skills and positional versatility.

McClellin lined up everywhere from defensive end, outside linebacker and inside linebacker.

He has drawn comparisons to former Denver Broncos linebacker Karl Mecklenburg to Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds at the NFL scouting combine where he also registered a 9-10 broad jump, a 31 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 7.07 three-cone drill, a 4.33 in the 20-yard shuttle and bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times.

McClellin excelled at the Senior Bowl.

The All-Mountain West Conference selection had 46 tackles, 9 1/2 for losses and six sacks last season.

As a junior, McClellin was named first-team all-conference as he had 30 tackles, 13 1/2 for losses and a team-high 9 1/2 sacks.

He had 2 1/2 sacks against Virginia Tech, and returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown against Toledo and was named Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman.

For his career, McClellin had 33 tackles for losses and 20 1/2 sacks.

Growing up in Idaho, McClellin played running back and linebacker in high school. He rushed for 1,893 yards and 22 touchdowns with 126 tackles, six interceptions and seven defensive touchdowns.
