During warm ups yesterday Ed Reed let a coach’s pass slip right through his hands and hit him “just below the belt line.” Reed went down and stayed there for a bit. A couple people on the sidelines seemed concerned initially not knowing what happened.
After a long two minutes for Reed, he got up and practiced without incident. Reed actually had a very good practice and was an enthusiastic while shouting the change of pace scream in the song Renegade by Styx. Steelers’ fans reading this are likely chuckling…
OTHER NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
Former Colts Head Coach and now new Ravens quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell is barely noticeable. Hopefully his impact is greater in the classroom…Another of the old Colts, now a Raven (temporarily) is Curtis Painter. Painter has been awful. If you are looking for a starting QB for your rec flag league, hang in there, the Kurt Cobain look-a-like will be available in the near future.
Guess who had a false start yesterday?…Art Jones had the hit of the day dropping the Ravens’ newest millionaire Ray Rice like he was Joe Frazier…Emmanuel Cook displayed good timing and patience on two safety blitzes, one for a sack, another a pressure…Asa Jackson had a pair of picks and Bernard Pollard picked off a pass by Joe Flacco intended for Anquan Boldin. Pollard did a nice job jumping the route…Flacco had by far his worst practice this camp. He threw another pick while in the red zone right into the waiting arms of Ray Lewis. No one but Ray was in the same zip code.
Davon Drew is out of practice squad mulligans and from what these eyes have seen, he’ll be among the early cuts…Tony Wragge was heavily praised by John Harbaugh for picking up Ed Reed on a safety blitz. It initially appeared that Reed would run unabated to the quarterback.
Billy Cundiff was four of seven on Tuesday while Justin Tucker was five of six. Both connected on field goals from 60 yards and both were aided by a slight breeze directly at their backs. Money aside, Tucker has a slight edge on Cundiff…Speaking of money if Tucker does win the job the Ravens would save $2.2M in cap space with Cundiff’s departure. They would have to carry dead money of $600K in ’12, $1.8M in ’13 to offset the bonus paid to Cundiff in 2011. Gino Gradkowski ticked off a couple of guys today. He engaged in 2 shoving matches with Terrence Cody and a third with Dannell Ellerbe.
