Joe Flacco calling himself the best QB in the league earlier in the year caused a stir in the national media, creating a lot of backlash. My question is, why is it so important for people to talk about Flacco being elite? For a team that is always under the radar in the national media, there are tons of insults or criticism at Baltimore’s QB or their defense being old.
After all, what did you want him to say? “Oh I think I’m in the middle of the pack.” Sure, then we will be hearing people say he’s not elite because, “he doesn’t have enough confidence in himself.”
So let’s get this straight – Flacco’s not that good, Baltimore’s defense is old, yet they are the only team in the NFL that has made the playoffs the last four years. Makes sense.
Do people care about their QB being elite so that they can say they have one? Does having an elite QB mean more than wins? No it doesn’t.
Since 2008, Joe Flacco leads the NFL in wins with 55 (including playoffs) so people can say what they want, as long as he is getting the job done.
At the end of the day Ravens fans want a super bowl. This is not the year for stats. The Ravens have had glamorous records before. It doesn’t mean much.
Compare Flacco to anybody. Is it really on Joe Flacco because he got drafted on team that understands team football? Just because he has talent around him, doesn’t take away from his success. It seems these days in order for a QB to be elite his team he has to have crap around him so he can be the main face of the team.
I don’t care what QB you talk about. No QB in this league is going to be the face of the Baltimore Ravens as long as Ray Lewis is still there.
Bring Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Eli Manning on the Ravens it’s still not their team.
It’s Ray’s team. There’s not a player in the NFL that would take over this team from Ray Lewis.
Let Flacco keep chalking up wins and let the other people in the media get whiny.
