Ray Lewis without question is the face of the Baltimore Ravens.
For 17 seasons Lewis has been the heart and soul of the Ravens’ defense and the team leader for nearly as long.
It isn’t often that a player possesses extreme physical talent, an outstanding work ethic, can lead a team both emotionally and by example and can be a source of inspiration the way Ray Lewis has during his career.
When No. 52 is gone, it would be completely shortsighted of us all to think that one man can accept the torch handed down by Ray. More then one set of shoulders will have to bear the brunt of those responsibilities.
Many fans would like to see Ray remain with the Ravens’ organization. Ravens’ owner Steve Bisciotti doesn’t quite see it that way.
“I think Ray Lewis transcends a position in our organization. If he ever needs it, he’s got it. But I don’t think that he’ll ever need it. I think that Ray is on to bigger and better things and I think that his heart is such that he would rather move people.
“He can make his money in speaking engagements and endorsements but his heart is bigger than his will and I really believe that he’s going to be someone that you’re more proud of being in the world than being in our organization 20 years from now.”
