Vonta Leach’s agent is talking up the Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins made a splash (pun intended) during free agency, and they may not be done yet.

Ralph Vitolo, the agent for former Ravens fullback Vonta Leach, told the Miami Herald that he believes that his client will end up signing with the Miami Dolphins. Leach was released by the Ravens earlier this month after refusing to take a pay cut.

When it comes to free agent talent, the Dolphins haven’t shied away from opening up their checkbooks. During the first two hours of free agency, the Dolphins signed former Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace and Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.

In total, those deals combined for $95 million, of which $44 million total is guaranteed.

Leach has drawn plenty of interest on the free agent market and Vitolo’s comments to the Miami Herald could simply be a power play to drive up the price for his client. The New York Daily News reported that the New York Giants were considering increasing their initial offer in order to bring in Leach to replace injured fullback Henry Hynoski.

There still is a possibility that Leach is testing the market and reporting back to Ravens general manager with his findings. This happened to the Dolphins earlier this offseason when free agent left tackle Bryant McKinnie visited the them (and the San Diego Chargers) before ultimately resigning with the Ravens.

Leach appeared on SiriusXM NFL radio and stated that he is still in communication with the Ravens, speaking with general manager Ozzie Newsome once per week.

Given that Leach hasn’t rushed a decision to this point and no team has stepped up a major offer, the odds of him returning to Baltimore are even greater. Knowing that Newsome would certainly see his comments, it makes perfect sense for Leach’s agent to say what he did to the Miami media.

What’s the worst case scenario? His client gets more money.

That’s just an agent being an agent.
