Some leaders just sit back and watch as their men do their jobs. Others get their men prepared, determined, motivated, and even, if possible, join them in executing the task at hand. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh certainly falls into the latter category. He may be just the leader and motivator that the Ravens need this year after losing key players who previously held that leadership role.
This week, Harbaugh said he loves motivating this team.
“Every conversation you have with a guy, every meeting that we have, to me, is just fun,” said the Super Bowl champion head coach.” To me, so much of building a team is about having a common way of looking at things, having common values, believing in the same type of things, deciding that this is going to make us who we are, and this is going to get us to where we are going, and by the way, this is where we plan on going.”
Motivational, to the point, and inspiring; I think it’s safe to say John Harbaugh knows what he is doing.
Going back to Wednesday when I first heard the news that the coaches cancelled practice to pull a ‘Remember the Titans’ move, I got even more fired up for Ravens football. Talk about a tremendous way to motivate a team.
This type of motivation is very important for a team with many young and/or new players, and since Harbaugh said, “I love stuff like that,” I can only imagine what he has in store for us next.
When you hear that your head coach loves motivating his players and is having fun, you almost have to buy into the mindset that good things will stem from that. This not only motivates the players, but it also reassures the fans that things are going in the right direction.
