So, “Here We Are” is this season’s Ravens motto.
When I first heard the motto a couple of thoughts popped into my head both on opposite ends of the emotional spectrum.
I can’t deny that the phrase had me conjuring up some sappy song by the same title sung by Celine Dion (I first thought her name was pronounced like ‘dyin’’…but that’s just what happens to you slowly if forced to listen to her). And then it dawned on me – there is a sappy song by that title sung by Gloria Estefan.
Naturally an NFL football team wouldn’t be that sappy would they? Of course not – not the Super Bowl Champions although admittedly John Harbaugh has a little cornball in him with things like “Mighty Men.”
“Here We Are” suggests, “we are the champions so bring it!”
It’s as if the Ravens are saying, “Let’s see what you’ve got and until someone takes our title, champions we will be.”
If you want it, here it is come and get it! Now there’s a better tune written by Paul McCartney for Badfinger back in 1969.
STILL “Here We Are” takes me back to a Bob Seger track called “We’ve Got Tonight”. Of course the cockiness of the term “Here We Are” might also suggest “Catch Me If You Can.”

Maybe the Ravens should have borrowed from Steely Dan. If you are going to be ballsy, be ballsy.
