Jacoby Jones and Bryant McKinnie weren’t available to reporters at the Ravens facility on Wednesday, but each of them hosted a radio show Wednesday night and gave his own version — somewhat — of what went down on the infamous party bus in the wee hours Monday morning.
Officially, there was a disturbance outside a nightclub in Washington, D.C., where McKinnie and Jones, among others, had gone via a party bus to celebrate McKinnie’s birthday after the Ravens’ win over Houston. According to the report from the Metropolitan Police Department, police were called to a “fight in progress” and Jones ended up with a “severe laceration.”
The entertainment website TMZ.com, citing anonymous sources, said the injury came when a stripper named Sweet Pea hit Jones over the head with a bottle.
Jones refused treatment at the scene, according to police, and there were no arrests. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Jones was at the Ravens facility Monday taking part in all activities as normal.
Speaking on his radio show on 105.7 The Fan on Wednesday night, Jones said, “I’m going to take the responsibility that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. There was no altercation. There’s nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong but I take responsibility for being in wrong place at the wrong time. Enough said. I apologize to my teammates and everybody.”
McKinnie, meanwhile, insisted on WNST Radio that Jones was not hit over the head, and that there were “not any strippers” on the bus.
“He didn’t get hit over the head with a bottle,” McKinnie said. “You had a girl who … managed to find her way on the bus at the end of the night. … She wasn’t invited.”
McKinnie said passengers on the bus included “me, my teammates and my friends that came in town for the game and for my birthday and stuff like that. Not any strippers. I don’t know where this came from.”
McKinnie suggested TMZ’s source was paid for her story and said, “She got paid for a story that wasn’t true.”
McKinnie wasn’t asked about the police report or how Jones might have had gotten a laceration.
McKinnie told WNST that he and Jones were the subject of Sweet Pea jokes at practice on Wednesday, and was asked about possible “Sweet Pea” chants from the fans in Buffalo when the Ravens play there on Sunday.
“If they do it,” McKinnie said, “I’ll bust out laughing.”
