The Ravens have addressed their offensive line issues by acquiring left tackle Eugene Monroe from the Jaguars in a Tuesday night trade, an NFL source has confirmed. The Ravens were expected to give up undisclosed later round draft choices, although the exact compensation was not immediately clear.

Monroe was the eighth pick in the 2009 draft and has started all four games this season and 62 games during his career. He is regarded as one of the league’s quality left tackles, solid as both a run blocker and a pass blocker. His arrival may mean the demotion of current Ravens starting left tackle Bryant McKinnie.

The trade reflects the urgency the Ravens feel to improve their offensive line. The Ravens rank 28th in the league in rushing and Joe Flacco has been sacked 12 times in four games. Monroe is viewed as someone who can help solidify the line, while the Jaguars, the NFL’s worst team, covet the draft picks to help them rebuild.
