Forget the Marriott, Kelechi Osemele Needs Motel 6

Well, this is one of the more ridiculous excuses for a player to miss a game due to injury.

Ravens guard Kelechi Osemele surprisingly missed most of last Sunday’s game against the Dolphins due to back spasms. Osemele only played the first series (six snaps) before being replaced by A.Q. Shipley, who was thrown into a pack of wolves to put it nicely.

Osemele has struggled with back spasms periodically, but attributed his most recent problem to the softness of the mattress at the team hotel. Apparently, Osmele is the perfect candidate for a Sleep Number Bed, and should have traded out the Marriott for a Motel 6.

“One of the major things is the bed I sleep in has to be really firm, it was a really soft bed,” Osemele said when asked about leaving the game early. “That’s another thing that kind of throws my back out of whack. It was too soft. I can’t be on a soft mattress, it has got to be firm.”

Unfortunately for Osemele, the Ravens have five road games remaining this season, and won’t play another home game until November 10th after this weekend’s matchup against the Packers. Unless the Ravens can find some plywood lying around the team hotels in Pittsburgh or Cleveland, Osemele may have to settle for the floor, which is consistent regardless of where he travels.

Considering what happened with Shipley on the field last week, the Ravens can’t afford to have K.O. K.O’d by another soft, high-class mattress that feels like sleeping on clouds. Hopefully, Delta will accommodate Osemele should he choose to bring a sleeping bag onto the team flights at no additional charge.
