Reality: The Baltimore Ravens were given $130,000 to promote the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare.”
Perception: Technically, the Ravens were given $130,000 by the Maryland Health Connection to do advertising for them. The Maryland Health Connection decided to “make fans aware of the new opportunity they have for health coverage beginning this fall through health insurance marketplace.” So, NO, The Ravens did not “push” Obamacare. Another business bought advertising and decided they would make their advertisement about the new health care law. That’s like Pepsi buying advertising with the Ravens and putting a commercial on about caffeine addiction. If someone is offering you the money, as a business you take it. I don’t like Obamacare, but I don’t fault the Ravens for taking the advertising money from Maryland Health Connection.
Plus, informing your fans about their options is not the same as supporting it. Obamacare is law now, so whether you support it or not, it’s here and we have to deal with it. So if it’s law, you might as well inform people what their options are. That’s all this Maryland Health Connection promotion does.
Reality: There is a Baltimore Ravens 2013 Super Bowl Champions ring at the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay in Essex. (Read about it HERE)
Perception: My Dad and my Uncle run Sunset Harbor Marina in Essex, and I don’t see them receiving a lot more traffic from this story of people wanting to get to the bottom of the bay to search for it. But if someone did find it, you could get a nice payday – or one heck of a souvenir!
Reality: The St. Louis Rams reached out to 44-year-old Brett Favre to see if he’d be willing to come back and lead their team, after Sam Bradford was lost for the season to injury. 43-year-old Jeff Garcia told a Cleveland radio station that he was open to leading the Browns as they continue to struggle at the quarterback position.
Perception: Just another reason that I’m so thankful for Joe Flacco. Yes, he has his ups and downs, but he is still a Top 10 (I even say Top 5) quarterback in the NFL. In addition, he’s in year six and has NEVER missed a start. We are lucky to have such a tough and durable player back there, so we don’t have to worry about what to do when he goes down.
Reality: John Harbaugh said the team needs to get better and they will “do whatever it takes” to make it happen. He said “We’ll trade guys, we’ll cut guys, we’ll sign guys…”
Perception: No, the Ravens are not going to go make a big splash and trade for a name. No Josh Gordon. No Kenny Britt. How the Ravens will fix it is to cut players that are not producing and go with their “next man up” philosophy, until they find one that works.
