Osemele to IR Could Pave Way for Asa Jackson’s Return

Once again, the Ravens are set to do the roster shuffle this week.

While no official move has been made yet it looks as if the Ravens will put Kelechi Osemele on injured reserve in the next few days.

On Monday, Coach Harbaugh confirmed that Osemele is currently scheduling surgery, and will subsequently need about three or four months of recovery.

“The back was just getting a little worse, a little worse as we went,” Harbaugh said on Friday. “We went back and looked at it and there are some things that need to be taken care of.”

Placing Osemele on injured reserve is, by all indications, a formality at this point. While it ends the season of a player who impressed during his rookie campaign, it may also open up the door for the return of another 2012 draft pick, Asa Jackson.

Jackson, the second-year cornerback, is eligible to return to practice on Wednesday after an eight-game suspension and could find himself suiting up on Sunday.

“We’re going to take a good look at him this week,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll see where he’s at. Asa says he’s been working hard and he’s in great shape.  Hopefully, he’s in that kind of shape where he can slide right in there and help  us. We’ll see if he can help us this week. I’m not ruling that out as a  possibility.”

Considering the groin injury suffered by Jimmy Smith against Cleveland, along with the poor play of Chykie Brown once replacing Smith, Asa could be a breath of fresh air for the Ravens’ struggling secondary.
