If Healthy, Former Packers Safety Collins Could Help Ravens

Former Green Bay Packers safety Nick Collins hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2011.

Collins suffered a spinal cord injury two games into that 2011 season and was released by the Packers in 2012.

Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson said in a news release at the time that the Packers were not comfortable clearing Collins to play again.

But Collins posted on Twitter Monday that he is “ready for action.” If he is, he could be of interest to a team like the Ravens.

Baltimore’s brass has said that adding an athletic, playmaking free safety is one of its priorities this offseason. Collins was one of the best free safeties in the NFL before getting hurt.

He had 17 interceptions from 2009-11 and was selected to the Pro Bowl each of those three seasons.

He’s also still just 30 years old.

Now, it’s unclear if Collins will ever be cleared to play again.
