On the football field, everything doesn’t always pan out the way the Baltimore Ravens would like; however, their determination to be one of the best teams in league is second to none.
The same can be said for the organization and its players off the field as well.
Throughout the course of the season and many times during the offseason, they strive to give back to the community whether it is here in Baltimore, in players’ hometowns, or even overseas.
Some will say it’s the least they can do because of “all the money” they make  and to a degree that is true. Over the past five years I have been fortunate enough to witness a lot of smiles, tears and thank you’s from many people our Ravens have helped in their time of need.
No amount of money the Ravens or the players donate could replace the time they’ve spent being involved with their various foundations. The folks who’ve benefited will be the first to tell you that much.
There are over 15 player foundations alone from just the starting roster – and that doesn’t include all the teammates that lend their support to help their football brethren.
The Ravens are well-known for being a classy organization and the coaching staff is just as involved as their players.
Recently head coach John Harbaugh embarked on a week long trip to visit members of the United States Military in Turkey and Afghanistan. Harbaugh has a strong commitment to our nation’s armed forces for what they do for each and every one of us day in and day out.
While visiting Afghanistan, Harbaugh took to Skype to thank a special group of students from St. Paul’s School for Girls in Baltimore, who had collected coffee and tea to send to the air base Harbaugh was visiting.
In a Baltimore Sun article, it was stated that during the Skype session, 50 sixth-graders and a dozen representatives from the school’s service group Club USA chatted with soldiers, officers and Harbaugh.
While the Ravens have a few issues to address in preparation for their upcoming season, they certainly are sure fire Hall of Famers for everything they do behind the scenes for so many people.
This is a team that I am honored to cover and be a small part of.
