RAVENS NEWS & NOTES: 3 Comp Picks For 2015

RSR has learned that there will be a rotation among the 8-8 teams in each round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In other words if a team is picking first among the group in Round 1, then they will be picking last among the group in Round 2 (and so on)…

A team source has informed RSR that newly acquired safety Darian Stewart is a possible starter if the Ravens don’t get a good free safety in the draft. The team believes that Stewart is a better fit than James Ihedigbo. The former St. Louis Ram isn’t as physical as Dig but more rangy. The team hopes that he eventually is their No. 3 safety given his ability to play both free and strong safety.

For a closer look at Stewart check out Tale of the Tape.

The acquisition of Stewart leaves the Ravens at +2 in terms of compensatory picks for 2015. When James Ihedigbo eventually signs with another team they will be back to +3. For the moment the team expects those 2015 picks to be (3) 5th round picks.

This would boost the Ravens total number of picks in 2015 to 11, their own 1 through 7 picks, the 3 comp picks and the 7th round pick they’ll receive from Miami in exchange for Bryant McKinnie.

With that kind of inventory in 2015, it would not be surprising to see the Ravens deal a future pick this year to move up and get a player they like in the 2014 NFL Draft. Keep in mind compensatory picks are not tradable.
