LSU draft prospect Zach Mettenberger already has an indirect connection to the Ravens. His offensive coordinator at LSU was Cam Cameron, the Ravens’ former offensive coordinator.

Scheduled to throw at LSU’s pro day Wednesday, Mettenberger said working with Cameron gave him a jump on some other quarterbacks in the draft.

“He taught me how to approach the game like an NFL veteran when I was a senior in college, Mettenberger said during his combine press conference. “I was up at the facility at eight o’clock every morning studying film. I really kind of had almost a year head start on some of these guys.”

The Ravens are in the market for a backup quarterback, so Mettenberger is on their radar. However, the Ravens are not expected to draft a quarterback until Day 3 of the draft, and Mettenberger could be gone by then. Some scouts think Mettenberger could be a second-round pick, while others are not as sold. Mettenberger is coming off ACL surgery after a season-ending knee injury Nov. 29 against Arkansas, and his pro day Wednesday will be an important audition.

“Without the injury, I still don’t think he’s going to be a first or second round pick,” said NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock during a conference call before the combine. “I think he stares down some of his intended receivers. I think the ball comes out late sometimes. He’s not a guy I think can start day one in the NFL.”
