The Ravens and 49ers will hold four combined practices in Maryland following their Thursday, Aug. 7 preseason game at M&T Bank Stadium. They will hold a light practice together at M&T the day after the game, followed by three joint sessions at the Ravens’ practice facility in Owings Mills from Aug. 9-11.
It will give Ravens coach John Harbaugh and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh a chance to spend more time together, while their teams compete against each other. Teammates often grow weary of facing each other during training camp and preseason. Joint practices are a way for teams to add a competitive edge to the August grind.
“I called Jim about a month ago and asked him if he wanted to do it, and I wasn’t really sure if he’d want to,” John Harbaugh told the Ravens’ website. And he was like, ‘Absolutely, let’s do it.’
“We’ve been trying to figure out the last four weeks or so how we’d set it up, and we decided to do it after the first game. We felt like the first two weeks we needed to do our install process and it would be better after the game. Nobody has really done one after the game that I’m aware of, so this will be the first time.”
Practicing at Owings Mills will certainly bring back memories for 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin.
