Move over, Ray Lewis.
There’s another player who will be joining Lewis and six other Ravens in the Ravens Ring of Honor this year: tight end Todd Heap.
The Ravens announced on Tuesday that Heap would be honored this fall, joining the prestigious group that Lewis joined this past season in a ceremony at M&T Bank Stadium. In addition to the Ravens, the Ring of Honor also features late team owner Art Modell and eight members of the Baltimore Colts.
“It’s pretty surreal,” Heap told the team website. “You look at all the names that are up there. There are a lot of special players in Ravens history. It’s going to be cool to be listed among them. You never know how deserving it is, but I was pretty excited to get a call from Steve Bisciotti telling me he was going to put me up there. I was pumped and I think it’s going to be cool for years to come.”
Other Ravens in the Ring of Honor include Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, Matt Stover, Jonathan Ogden, Peter Boulware, Michael McCrary and Earnest Byner.
Heap spent 10 seasons with the Ravens after they drafted him in the first round out of Arizona State in 2001. Heap holds the team record with 41 touchdown catches and finished his Ravens career with 467 catches for 5,492 yards. Both numbers rank second in team history behind Derrick Mason.
