The Dallas Cowboys had a really bad defense in 2013. Really bad!
Of the 32 teams in the league the Cowboys were ranked 32nd. Some other key defensive stats also paint a bleak picture of a season owner Jerry Jones would love to forget:
• Opponents converted 43% of third down attempts (4th worst)
• Opponents averaged 6.1 yards per play against the defense once known as “Doomsday” (2nd worst)
• Opponents threw for 286.8 yards per game on average (3rd worst)
• Opponents ran it for 128.5 yards per game on average (6th worst)
• The Cowboys surrendered 432 points (7th worst) and 51 TD’s (6th worst)
And then they lost their best defenders, DeMarcus Ware (released) and Sean Lee (ACL injury)
It gets worse…
Safety JJ Wilcox is out and there’s no date on his return.
Day-to-day injuries include another safety, Eric Frampton along with LB Ernie Mills and DT Sean Lissemore.
Also missing in action during recent practices: Cole Beasley (foot), Kevin Kowalski (knee), Ryan Cook (back), Ray Dominguez (shoulder), Nate Livings (knee), Darrion Weems (undetermined), Morris Claiborne (knee), Matt Johnson (foot), Alex Albright (back), Jay Ratliff (hamstring) and Anthony Spencer (knee).

More than likely the Ravens first-string offense got a ton more out of their practices with the 49ers than they could ever glean from extended time against the Cowboys on Saturday.
Don’t be surprised if Joe Flacco & Co. get only two series against this sieve of a defense, with all due apologies to the sieve.
