The Baltimore Ravens preseason game against the Washington Redskins last Saturday night was unusually physical.
One might think that it’s understood that the starters on opposing teams wouldn’t go for kill shots or throw their bodies around with reckless abandon. The stars and starters are simply looking to get in their work without risking the regular season due to unnecessary injuries.
Apparently the Washington Redskins, particularly defensive coordinator Jim Haslett and safeties Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather didn’t get that memo.
Meriweather has a history of headhunting and on Saturday his victim was Torrey Smith. He received a two-game suspension for the cheap shot.
Given his history including a vicious shot on Todd Heap (seen HERE) the penalty should have been more severe. He just doesn’t care.
In a league that will suspend a player for four games after testing positive for marijuana three times, they will suspend a player out to maim another for just two games.
This violation represents the sixth time Meriweather has been reprimanded for illegal hits.
And we’re supposed to take Roger Goodell seriously about his concerns for player safety?
