Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported today that his sources are telling him that the NFL will fine Titans tight end Chase Coffman $30,000 for this heinous cheap shot (see video below) on a Ravens assistant coach following Danny Gorrer’s interception of a Zack Mettenberger pass late in last week’s 21-7 Ravens win at M&T Bank Stadium.
Now to put this relatively light fine in perspective Ravens safety Darian Stewart was fined $22,050 for a block that was deemed illegal – a block mind you that probably isn’t flagged every time, and one that would have been considered a love tap by Hines Ward who made a living dishing out harsher blocks without repercussion.
Taking it a step further, Rex Ryan was recently fined $100,000 for using bowling alley words – apparently a repeat offender in the Department of Profanity.
I guess one of the league’s sponsors phoned and complained about Rex Ryan so he’s unceremoniously slapped with a 6-digit tariff. Meanwhile this cheap shot artist from Tennessee could have seriously injured the unsuspecting Ravens special teams assistant Tony Coaxum.
According to Glazer, Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt claims that Coffman’s hit was unintentional.
And I thought Whisenhunt was a standup guy.
Yeah, right…
