Its been almost two years since wide receiver Anquan Boldin last donned the purple and black on game day in Baltimore; however, he still maintains an active role in improving the lives of others here in Maryland.
On Tuesday, Boldin, now with the San Francisco 49ers hosted students from The SEED School of Maryland, a college-preparatory, public boarding school in Baltimore, on a holiday shopping spree sponsored by the former Raven and his Q81 Foundation.
Boldin provided each student a $100 gift card along with a shopping experience with the Q81 team at the Wal-Mart in Arbutus, Maryland.
It’s always been about giving back to the Pahokee, Florida Native, who continues to do so in every city he’s played in during his 12 NFL seasons.
“Holiday seasons are a significant time of the year when you want people to enjoy themselves and worry less of their struggles,” said Boldin. “The Holiday Shopping Spree is one of several programs the Q81 Foundation conducts each year, where we select schools and programs who demonstrate the need. We are happy to once again support the SEED School and the community of Baltimore.”
Boldin, whose Q81 Foundation was established in 2004, is dedicated to expanding the educational and life opportunities of underprivileged children and has showcased charitable activities in Phoenix, Baltimore, South Florida and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Foundation conducts an annual, eight-week, Q81 Summer Enrichment Program in partnership with Florida Crystals. It also serves the community by awarding great scholastic and community achievement in youth, distributing over 10, four-year college scholarships to date, many of which have changed lives here in Baltimore.
Recently, in November 2014 Boldin and his wife announced a $1 million endowment to the Q81 Foundation for continued distribution of college scholarships. The Foundation conducts annual Thanksgiving and Holiday Shopping Sprees as well as collaborative efforts in supporting football camps, tournaments, and an annual Q-Festival Weekend held in South Florida each April.
His passion for the game of football has been missed on the field on Sundays, but his involvement in the community can been seen daily.
All the best, Q.
