The Ravens have re-signed Jah Reid to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum and with playing time incentives. Our staff reacts:
I’ve gotta say I don’t get this signing. It’s obvious that Ozzie and company see something in Jah Reid that we haven’t seen since he’s been in Baltimore. Ozzie knows better, but I’m hoping that he’s a future camp casualty. – Tyler Lombardi
Not the move everyone was expecting after Ozzie Newsome stated yesterday the team was close to re-signing one of their own. The offensive line is set for 2015 barring any injuries and it’s likely Reid is nothing more than a camp body at this time. – Brian Bower
A waste of time and an odd case of the Ravens failing to admit failure on a high draft pick and simply move on. The contract is low risk, but is it really a “depth” signing if Reid can never stay healthy? – Kyle Casey
I see this move as a Dan Duquette-type move. It is a cheap signing for depth only. A 1 year $745,000 deal doesn’t break the bank for the Ravens but provides them with a little depth, even if it’s only for training camp. The staff might see something we don’t. He played in 4 games in 2014, 10 games in 2013, 10 games in 2012, and all 16 games in 2011. He hasn’t done a great job, but the staff obviously has a reason for the contract. – Joe Polek
It doesn’t bother me at all that the Ravens re-signed Jah Reid. We probably got him for like 87 cents. No big deal. Don’t let the twitter GMs tell you otherwise. – Kenny Miller
Re-signing the “Reed” with two “e’s” wouldn’t have been too much more surprising than this move. The Ravens are very deep at OL, Reid got into a bit of trouble last offseason, and the acquisition of even one rookie linemen could threaten his place on the 53-man roster. But Reid knows the offense and could provide veteran depth in a pinch. – Kyle Rate
Where is Jah? He’s here…still…for some reason. Low-risk at the vet minimum, and he’ll have to really earn his spot during training camp. He’s by no means a lock to make the 53. – Derek Arnold
The guess here is that Jah isn’t much more than camp fodder and he won’t see one of those 17 game checks. The guy doesn’t love the game and it shows. If he could only bring that strip club intensity to the field… – Tony Lombardi
While he better not have to play, at the very least he provides familiar depth. That being said, he remains a wasted third-round pick. – Kyle Ottenheimer
What’s disappointing about this move has little to do with Reid’s contract or performance on the field. Signing a player for the veteran minimum with most of his money tied to incentives will have little impact on the Ravens cap. What’s confusing is why the Ravens wouldn’t want to move on from a guy who’s made headlines only for the wrong reasons when they spend half of their press conferences answering questions regarding character concerns. Even if he could contribute it wouldn’t make much sense, considering he’s proven he can’t it’s just plain baffling. – Ryan Jones
