Steelers Writer Uses Preston Article to Criticize Ravens
Steelers.com writer, Bob Labriola thinks that the Ravens wasted a 5th round draft pick if they only moved up to leapfrog the Steelers. He says, “All due respect to Maxx Williams, but you don’t go tight end in Round 2 after you’ve gone linebacker in Round 1 even if the tight end is John Mackey. Maxx Williams is not John Mackey.”….Um, WHAT? If you think a tight end is going to be John Mackey and you have an opportunity to pick him in the second round, you take him. You don’t reach for need when he would clearly be the best player on the board. I’m also not sure why going tight end in round 2 after going linebacker in round 1 is such a bad move. LINK
Harbaugh comments on Wells report – briefly
Clifton Brown of CSN Baltimore discusses John Harbaugh’s very brief response to the Wells report. When he was asked if he read it, he said, “246 pages? No, I’ve been a little busier than that. I’ve heard about it.” The rest of his response is similar to what it has been the entire time. He is focused on his team, not the affairs of the Patriots. LINK
Ravens to host joint practices with Eagles
Clifton Brown explains the specifics of the three days of practice that the Ravens will have with the Eagles before the two teams play in the preseason. John’s brother, Jim Harbaugh has spoken highly of Chip Kelly to John, so John felt comfortable with the two teams joining together for a practice. LINK
Late for Work 5/11: Would Ed Reed Like a Statue at M&T Bank Stadium?
Sarah Ellison’s daily Late for Work blog details Ed Reed’s response to having a statue built after him. The future HOFer (despite what Peter King would tell you) says that he wouldn’t want one. That’s exactly what you’d expect from Ed, the man who hushed the crowd as he ran out for his last home game at M&T Bank Stadium because Ray Lewis was right behind him. LINK
The 21 Biggest Surprises of the NFL Draft
The first round of the draft was pretty boring until the Chargers decided to trade up and pick Melvin Gordon with the 15th overall pick. When the draft was all said and done, however, there were plenty of surprises to go around. Joe Redemann of numberFire gives us his 21 biggest surprises in the draft. LINK
RSP Film Room: Breshad Perriman
Matt Waldmann of the RSP Film Room and Gene Clemmons of Football Gameplan give a very, VERY detailed breakdown of some Breshad Perriman film against NC State. The video runs almost an hour long, and it’s certainly not for the casual fan. They don’t have a lot of optimism for the pick. Breakdown of the actual film starts at ~7 minutes in, and the whole thing runs over an hour long. The main knocks against him are a tendency to drift downfield instead of attacking the ball and raw route-running. LINK
