News broke on Saturday in what is an otherwise normally quiet time for the NFL news cycle before training camps open up.
It was reported by Sal Paolantonio that Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti and Colts owner Jim Irsay are among the most vocal owners arguing against a reduced suspension for Tom Brady.
CSN New England’s Patriots insider Tom Curran broke the news with an article on Saturday:
“It’s not surprising that Irsay and Bisciotti are the ones holding the torches and pitchforks. In the divisional playoffs the Patriots beat the Ravens, embarrassing them (and former Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees, now in the same role with the Ravens) with a gadget formation that led to a momentum changing touchdown.” He added, “Goodell hides behind words like integrity, and says his main interest is doing what’s best for the league. If he lived those words he wouldn’t have let the Ravens punctured ego and the accusation (an in-game football testing) of a Colts equipment man ignite the most absurd scandal in NFL history.”
Where do I begin?
Hey Tom, newsflash for you buddy, no one on the Ravens was embarrassed by the “gadget” play that your beloved Patriots ran. As a matter of fact that same “gadget” play has now been deemed illegal by the NFL. But the Patriots did what they always do, they found a cheap loophole in the rule book and exposed it. Some might call it smart, most would call it cheap.
Those plays aside aside, your quarterback cheated, plain and simple. Even worse he then blatantly denied any wrongdoing and threw two regular Joe Schmoes under the bus. In case you don’t remember, the Patriots didn’t run the ball once in the second half, and they had to come back from two 14 point deficits. And one of those “gadget” plays that you claim the Ravens were embarrassed on was thrown by a wide receiver. I’m not sure how much an under-inflated ball helps, but if there was ever a scenario where it would, you just read it.
People in New England aren’t the only ones tired of hearing about DeflateGate. Tom Brady made a mistake. He’s human, it happens and we all make mistakes from time to time, but that’s not the biggest issue. Tom Brady cheated, then he lied, then he pointed fingers at a couple of guys who were just being told what to do by one of the biggest sports icons in the world. If he could just accept his punishment, we could all move on and focus on the upcoming season. But he can’t, because his punctured ego is in the way.
Tom Curran, if you are going to report a story, how about next time you don’t leave out half the facts.
