When Joe Flacco and John Harbaugh arrived in 2008, the team eventually did begin to employ the red jerseys – until early during the 2014 season.
When Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers came to town to practice with the Ravens in Owings Mills, Colin Kaepernick wore a black jersey with dark red numbers. The fashionistas at the Castle were obviously impressed and the Ravens eventually dressed their quarterbacks in black and purple jerseys.
That wasn’t a big problem when Tyrod Taylor was the back up quarterback. But now that Matt Schaub has that job, given that the two are very physically similar, it’s difficult to tell who is behind center when the QB’s don the purple and black jersey.
More importantly the colors don’t stick out all that much from purple in the heat of the moment during practice. The alternate jersey does nothing to protect the quarterback and if something does happen to one, the Ravens, the coaches and the fans will all being seeing red.
