The NFL Needs Ray Rice More Than Ray Rice Needs The NFL

This is an interesting point from The Football Girl. She explains why Ray Rice might be the man to lead the charge against domestic violence:

“‘Domestic violence is real. It happens every :12 seconds,’ Rice said to Hill.

A statistic! Finally a real, critical stat that brings the severity of domestic violence to life. This type of stat has not been uttered by Roger Goodell at any point, or any of the myriad general managers and owners who keep embracing players stained with violent pasts. It certainly wasn’t flashed across the screen during last season’s vague ‘No More’ PSAs that featured silent actors acting emotional.”

The main thing that stuck with me from this article was her last point, “Rice’s aim at a second-chance shouldn’t really be measured by whether or not he deserves one, but rather the good he can do with it.” LINK

The Top Five 3-4 Front Sevens: Ravens #1

Eric Wagner of Football Nation thinks that the Ravens have the best 3-4 front seven in the NFL. He says that Timmy Jernigan played well against the run and pass and that Brandon Williams is “one of the best nose tackles in the league.” He mentions the Ravens’ depth along the defensive front as one of its strengths, too. A 308-pound NFL player explains why he drives a comically small used car that cost him $9,000

By now, we all know that John Urschel is very unique. We know that he is very intelligent and that if he didn’t make it in football, he’d have plenty of options elsewhere in life. He’s a good writer and a genius of a mathematician. He also drives a car that looks hilarious compared to the cars that park around him in the parking lot at One Winning Drive.

Tony Manfred of Business Insider helps explain why he drives it. It’s hard to argue with Urschel’s logic. LINK

2015 AFC North Preview: Will the Steelers Repeat as Champions?

Tyler Beucher of numberFire looks at their projections to determine who will win the AFC North in 2015. Spoiler alert: it’s not the Steelers; it’s the Ravens. Their projections say that the Ravens have a 60.6% chance of making the playoffs, which is much better than a study by the Harvard Sports Collective gave the Ravens. LINK
