With Wagner, Osemele and other key offensive linemen out, I expected the offense to sputter. I was not expecting 2 interceptions by Flacco. He did not look comfortable at all tonight. I was happy to see the run game gain positive yards on the first couple of plays. On defense, the secondary just didn’t play very well. Lots of penalties, blown coverages and sloppy play. On a positive note, Za’Darius Smith had another great game. I expect the team to rebound next week for the dress rehearsal.

Pretty disappointing stuff up and down the Ravens roster. The secondary was porous, Flacco was rusty, and penalties were ubiquitous. Terrence Magee, Za’Darius Smith, and Cassius Vaughn jumped out as a few of the lone bright spots. Always difficult to tell what to make of preseason action, but what we saw tonight was extremely poor.

It is pre-season… And for that, I am glad.

Being the eternal optimist that I am, and in lieu of it being the preseason, I’ll focus on the success of Baltimore’s running backs and offensive line. The Ravens ran for 150 yards and allowed just one sack (even though it might be attributed to Matt Schaub holding onto the ball too long).
Cassius Vaughn, Arthur Brown, and Terrence Magee each put a collection of strong plays on tape, which bodes well for them, as they are all on the bubble.
The one thing even I must criticize is the lack of discipline in the penalty department. Baltimore was penalized 17 times for 139 yards, and it could’ve been worse, as those were just the accepted infractions.
You knew going into this game that it would be tough for the Ravens defense to match up with the Eagles’ offense. Unfortunately, that prediction came to fruition tonight.

From a look-forward standpoint this game is all about how the OL will be impacted come the regular season. Osemele, Monroe, Hurst, Urschel, Jensen, and Reid are all key possibilities for the season and either didn’t suit up or left with injuries.
I am disappointed in the penalties, but I can look past some of the poor defensive play for a lack of game planning.

No one expected the outcome that took place tonight as the Ravens held their own over the course of their three-day joint practice in Philly. More concerning than the sloppiness that took place on the field are the injuries mounting against a team that can’t afford to lose depth players. While you can never get too high or too low when it comes to preseason games, the lack of a “scheme” in which Dean Pees acknowledged pre-game reared it’s ugly head. The Ravens were caught off guard by the high tempo Eagles offense. Much improvement is needed and it will happen. It wasn’t pretty but there’s plenty of time to right the ship.

Reports out of Phily this week suggested that the Eagles were the much better team on the practice field. If true that clearly carried over to the game.
There weren’t many positive takeaways. Justin Forsett and the line looked sharp, that was pretty much it.
After a well disciplined game in week 1 the Ravens gave up double digit penalties for over 100 yards. There again was a lack of turnovers on defense. And perhaps the worst part was the fact the starting secondary made Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez look like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
Only real positive….it’s the preseason!

It’s been said often that success doesn’t reveal character but how one handles adversity does. The Ravens coaching staff will have their work cut out for them this week because there is a ton of adversity in the form of bad looking film for them to review. We’ll see next week at The Bank how the Ravens respond. To help set the tone maybe John Harbaugh should re-create the shower scene from Durham Bulls.
