After the Ravens were destroyed by the Eagles last Saturday, the fanbase’s collective optimism took a bit of a hit. But, it was just one preseason game, and there is plenty to be excited about. This week, Will Hill signed a 2-year deal, so he will be with the Ravens through next year. We also looked at some areas where the Ravens need help and the increasingly alarming Breshad Perriman situation.
Flashback Friday – Shutting Down HOF Running Backs
While most databases will tell you that the Eagles hold the longest streak of stopping 100-yard rushers, those statistics don’t include the postseason for whatever reason. After not allowing a 100-yard rusher for just 14 games, they allowed a 100-yard rusher in the postseason to Greg Bell of the Los Angeles Rams, which means their streak was only 40 games, so the Ravens had the 2nd longest streak of not allowing a 100-yard rusher in NFL history with 50, including playoff games.
Kenny Miller details the Ravens’ historic stretch of not allowing a 100-yard rusher, which included games against Hall of Fame backs such as Marshall Faulk, Jerome Bettis, Emmitt Smith, and Barry Sanders. LINK
Will Hill Thrilled to Stay in Baltimore
A player is thrilled to re-sign a contract to stay in Baltimore. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Today, Brian McFarland explained the details of his contract. Earlier in the week, Brian Bower gave us Will Hill‘s reaction to the deal. He was happy because, in Hill’s words, “Even though it is just a business, it is more family-oriented around here, and I know I have a good rapport with all my coaches – the offensive coaches, too.” LINK
Perriman’s Absence Leaving Big Void
While the Ravens have a lot of receivers, they don’t have anyone to take the top off of a defense like Breshad Perriman could. Fans and media are becoming more anxious about his situation. Perriman was supposed to be a big part of the solution of how the Ravens would be able to keep up in a shootout. But, as Ryan Jones writes, “with each passing day he’s not on the field, it’s looking less and less likely in 2015.”
Preseason and the Hidden Agendas
During the preseason, the NFL has hidden agendas. As Tony Lombardi says, “yes, those hidden agendas of the preseason include gouging the customer.” If this wasn’t true, then the prices of preseason tickets would be much lower. Look at all of the empty seats tonight if you don’t believe me. LINK
Baltimore has averaged less time between championships than Pittsburgh
Do you like apples, Pittsburgh? You probably don’t like these apples. Baltimore, if you include both the Ravens and Colts have won more championships per year than Pittsburgh. Baltimore has won a championship every 10 years compared to Pittsburgh every 13.7 years. As Mike Fast says, “Stats don’t lie.” LINK
Joe Flacco is not elite at hosting football parties
While the Justin Tucker commercial in which he imitated Matthew McConaughey was great, this might be my favorite Ravens’ player commercial. I love everything about it.
