The Ravens made their first eight cuts on Monday in anticipation of Tuesday’s 4PM deadline to get the roster down to 75 players. So far, the players who have been cut are:
WR DeAndre Carter
WR Aldrick Robinson
LS Patrick Scales
P Justin Manton
CB Tramain Jacobs
G Leon Brown
WR Trent Steelman
G Marcel Jones
Our staff reacts to the cuts. We will continue to post reactions as they come in (with a time-stamp) until the roster is down to 75 players.
Kenny Miller (Monday 11:51 AM)
The only real notable name here is DeAndre Carter, who I was semi-excited about after hearing about his production at Sacramento State (99 rec, 1321 yards, 17 TD last year). He blew his only real chance at making the roster when he bobbled away two separate kickoff opportunities. Some may have expected Tramain Jacobs to make it through the first cut, but I never really expected him to make the roster anyway.
Mike Fast (Monday 12:10 PM)
No surprises here. Three wideouts let go is something that needed to happen, as Baltimore had a logjam at that position.
Ryan Jones (Monday 12:39 PM)
After a hot start early in OTA’s and DeAndre Carter regressed as the offseason program went on. Of the early cuts Carter and Patrick Scales are the most likely to catch on somewhere else, Scales only because he possesses a unique skill. There wont be too many surprises likely until the Ravens last few moves.
Brian Bower (Monday 12:46 PM)
No major shocks at all. Neither Carter nor Robinson did much of anything to standout following the first week of training camp.
Tyler Lombardi (Monday 12:52 PM)
While you never like to see players cut, there isn’t a single move thus far with which I don’t agree. DeAndre Carter has been a disaster as a returner. Saying that his hands on kick- and punt-returns are unreliable would be putting it mildly. I wouldn’t expect any surprises with the remainder of the cuts, either. The hard decisions will come when the Ravens have to trim down the roster to 53.
Adam Bonaccorsi (Monday 12:58 PM)
Carter may be the 1st potential KR/PR jettisoned from the roster, but I don’t believe he’ll be the last. I’ll give you a hint- I don’t mean Campanaro, and his name rhymes with Mesa Lackson.
