I believe in the cliché, one for all and all for one. I buy into the adage that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. And I will swear by the concept of “Team First”.
Therefore it should be no surprise that I’m a big John Harbaugh fan.
Sure he can be corny, maybe I am too…but I just dig the power of the human spirit, strength in numbers and that of the will to overcome adversity. I like those t-shirts he wears – the inspiring messages like:
• Hustling All The Time
• Fix Bayonet
• One
• 4 Fights Every Day
It’s one thing to say these things; another to believe them – to live them.
And THAT’s what Harbaugh does.
To exceed expectations you have to believe that you can, and the thing that fuels belief is inspiration. Just look around the Ravens – inspiration surrounds them and Harbaugh is the perfect maestro to unleash these emotions.
Let’s face it, the Ravens need all the help they can get. With the plethora of injuries at key positions the team is bleeding playmaking ability. So each player must grind it out, reach down within for that little extra that allows them to win their matchups even when facing more talented players.
They’ll have to win with effort and preparation, smarts and mistake free football.
Rudy did it. Marshall did it. The US Olympic Hockey Team did it in 1980. Unfortunately the Jets did it in 1969.
They all believed. They all refused to quit and they all bought in.
If John Harbaugh is selling, I’m buying.
We’ll see over the course of the next few weeks, if the Ravens do the same.
