Watching Von Miller destroy the Patriots during the AFC Championship Game was a Thing. Of. Beauty. Not only was he the single most destructive force on the field who blew by Marcus Cannon, time and time again as if he had been shot from one, he also disrupted the Patriots short passing game and even made a big interception.
Miller’s speed and athleticism at a need position for the Ravens, combined with his soon-to-be unrestricted free agent status had me wishing upon a Denver star.
The Ravens are capped strapped for now but could they get creative enough to create space to land Miller.
There’s a chance that Terrell Suggs will never be the same after his second Achilles injury, an injury that might morph him into a more expensive and older version of Courtney Upshaw.
There’s a chance that Chris Canty will be let go. There’s a chance that Lardarius Webb will take another pay cut.
There’s a chance that Miller could welcome a reunion with good buddy Elvis Dumervil.
In one fell swoop the Ravens could get that much needed pass rusher, make Dumervil an even better player and then use their No. 6 overall pick on a corner. Suddenly the Ravens defense would go from hapless to happening. The league’s 30th ranked turnover ratio could swing violently in their favor.
The playoffs have made it painfully obvious how weak the AFC has become. Rather pedestrian teams like the Texans and Chiefs were in the playoffs and even the Broncos and Patriots haven’t been all that impressive.
A move to get Miller and a stud defensive back could put the Ravens right back in the mix – right back in the playoffs – right back where they belong, almost right now.
Start schmoozing Elvis. On your way back from Honolulu visit Von in San Francisco and take him out to Harris’ Steakhouse.
Von Miller in purple and black. Miller Time in Baltimore.
Now that would be a thing of beauty.
