Ravens Have Little to Lose by Signing Richardson

The news that Trent Richardson is expected to be signed by the Ravens was greeted mostly with sighs and negative commentary on sports talk radio, podcast and of course social media. But signing of Trent Richardson has no downside really.

More than likely there will be no guaranteed money and Richardson, for all intents and purposes, will be playing for his professional life. This is likely to be his last chance to resurrect a disappointing career since leaving the University of Alabama and then being drafted third overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2012.

And Richardson understands the importance and maybe Ozzie Newsome does too.

Check out the video of him below courtesy of AL.com. Special thanks to Matt Zenitz.

Let’s face it, the Ravens have cap issues and they also were among the worst in the league in 2015 on third and short conversion attempts. Maybe Richardson can help. And maybe his inexpensive labor costs will help the Ravens free up cap space ($2.3M) should they decide to part ways with Justin Forsett.

Time will tell if adding Richardson was worth it but for now it’s far too early to draw conclusions particularly when there’s next to nothing to lose.
