Osemele contract situation is still up in the air, but Eugene Monroe should go regardless of the outcome. T. Smith relieved by news from his doctor about his unborn child. DeCosta expects an instant impact player. Notre Dame LB Smith could still be a force in the NFL. Ravens CB J. Smith will be important for the Ravens’ 2016 chances. Ravens news, notes on Kelechi Osemele, Eugene Monroe, NFL Draft options
After the public announcement of the Ravens’ offer to Kelechi Osemele, it seemed much more likely than before that the Ravens would hold onto the versatile offensive lineman. But things seem more up in the air now, and that’s not all that surprising. As Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun points out, there are plenty of teams with plenty of money who have needs along the offensive line. He doesn’t think that those negotiations should affect Eugene Monroe, though. He expects Monroe to be gone either way.
Torrey Smith :: Prayers Up
Torrey Smith tells the story of he and his wife’s scare with their unborn baby boy and Trisomy 18, which is a chromosomal abnormality. He and Chanel struggled with that possibility, but were then made aware that he doesn’t have it. Still, they know he isn’t in the clear, but they are prepared for whatever challenges they may face in the future. Let him know on the comments on his site that you’re praying for/thinking about him, Chanel, and baby Kameron.
DeCosta Excited to Draft Impact Player
Garrett Downing interviews Assistant GM Eric DeCosta at the NFL Combine. DeCosta says the Ravens need an instant impact player, and he is excited to find that guy. In addition to their 6th overall pick, he expects to find a top 30 player at the top of the second round. He also discusses how Breshad Perriman coming out in 2016 will be like having another first round pick.
MMQB’s Notes on NFL Combine
If you’ve ever read Peter King’s MMQB column, you know it’s a beast of an article in this world of 1000 words-or-less journalism. He always has some great observations, though. One of my favorite takeaways this week is this quote about Jaylon Smith: “I ran into one GM on Saturday, after Smith’s knee exam was done at the combine, King said,
“and this GM said: ‘No chance he won’t play at some point, and play well.'” Another interesting quote is this one from Mike Mayock regarding players who fail the drug test at the Combine: “You’re either habitual or you’re dumb. Neither of which are qualities the NFL is looking for.”
Jimmy Smith is the most important player for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2016 regular season
Vasilis Lericos of Baltimore Beatdown thinks Jimmy Smith will be the most important Raven next season. They face big names at receiver next season like Brandon Marshall, Allen Robinson, Sammy Watkins, Amari Cooper, and Jarvis Landry. It will be very important for him to improve.
