Baltimore’s Left Tackle is an Enigma
While Baltimore’s left tackle Eugene Monroe campaigns for marijuana in the NFL off the field, his employer has to be questioning his commitment on the field. Press play for more or read the transcript below.

Since signing his current contract in 2014, Eugene Monroe has played in 17 of 34 games. To say that he’s been a disappointment would be an understatement.
Making matters worse, last year as part of an effort to create cap space, the Ravens asked Monroe to restructure his contract to convert salary, paid over the course of the season in weekly game checks, into bonus money, which would be amortized over the term of Monroe’s contract.
In other words, let us give you all of this year’s money today.
There was no downside for Monroe.
Imagine your employer coming to you and saying, “We’d like to pay you your next 40 weekly paychecks today instead of over time because it will help us reduce our accounting expenses.”
Who wouldn’t take that deal, right?
Well, Baltimore’s left tackle Eugene Monroe for starters.
So you can only imagine why Monroe is held in low regard by the team, given his low tolerance for pain, as evidenced by the nicks and bruises that keep him sidelined, seemingly perpetually, while a grinder like Marshal Yanda tosses pain aside like Johnny Manziel discards empty bottles of Patron.
Now Monroe wants to fight Roger Goodell on the topic of medicinal marijuana in the NFL.
That’s not to say that Monroe’s cause is wrong, he’s just the wrong guy to lead the charge.
I’d rather he be more interested in leading Justin Forsett on the backside of a stretch run…
But he’d probably hurt his pinky.
