More Talent Will Hit The Market After The Draft

Since the signing of WR Mike Wallace the Ravens have been very quiet. But that doesn’t mean that Ozzie Newsome is done. After the draft the Ravens are likely to add more free agents.

At this point in the NFL calendar year, Ozzie Newsome and his peers across the league tend to cool their jets and wait to see how the NFL Draft affects the composition of rosters. Draft picks can change the way teams think about veterans who are falling short of expectations – not playing to the level of their contracts. And as such these veterans could be traded or cut free, particularly after June 1 when teams can spread out any dead cap money over two seasons.

The Ravens have already zeroed in on the under-performing veterans of each NFL roster who could be set free. It’s not that such players are no longer productive, they just aren’t worth the cap numbers assigned to them. An offensive lineman, inside linebacker or cornerback could capture Newsome’s attention particularly if the player fits the “right player, right price” equation.

There’s a reason Ozzie restructured a couple players and still has $6.7M in cap space. He didn’t restructure Marshal Yanda and Jimmy Smith without purpose.

More additions are coming.

Count on it!
