Could Whitner Improve The Ravens Secondary?
Lardarius Webb will move to a relatively unfamiliar position in 2016 — safety. And he’ll be paid handsomely to do so. But suddenly a new, experienced and accomplished safety has hit the market — Donte Whitner. And it begs the question, should it be Whitner or Webb next to Weddle?

The Cleveland Browns, the NFL’s answer to the Oakland A’s and their Moneyball ways, have cut loose safety Donte Whitner. Whitner has had stints in Buffalo (8th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft), San Francisco (SB XLVII) and of course with the Browns and has missed just 3 games since 2010.
The three-time Pro Bowler isn’t necessarily a ball hawk (only 11 career INT’s) but he does provide a physical presence (10 forced fumbles) and can cover. He was ranked 24th overall among safeties and 22nd in coverage. And obviously he knows the AFC North.
Whitner was scheduled to make $6.2M in 2016 but now the 30 year old safety will be lucky to get a deal that averages half that annually. Lardarius Webb, 3 months younger than Whitner, carries a $5.5M salary into 2016. Comparatively speaking, Webb has missed 14 games since 2010.
Whitner or Webb?
Some food for thought…
