DeCosta won’t rule him out, but the only way the Ravens draft Ramsey is with a trade. We look at what that would cost. The NFL mourns the loss of former Saints DE Smith. GMs see little difference between mid-1st and 2nd round picks. Would it make sense for the Ravens to draft a QB? Did Manziel move in with Gordon or Miller?
Eric DeCosta Isn’t Ruling Out Drafting Cornerback Jalen Ramsey
In no way is DeCosta projecting that Ramsey will still be available with the sixth pick. Just like the rest of us, he doesn’t think it’s likely. But he won’t rule it out. He looks back to 2006 for a similar scenario. “I would have bet every dollar that I had that Donte Whitner would’ve been there [for us],” DeCosta said. “I thought for sure he was going to be a safe fallback pick for us. I was shocked. I thought if these other players get picked, he’s our guy, and he got picked. You never know.”
Ryan Mink of Ravens Media asks, “anything can happen, right?” To which I would say, yes, but it would require a trade.
Baltimore Ravens: Why Not Trade Up in 2016 NFL Draft?
Jalen Ramsey has an infinitesimal chance at dropping to the sixth pick, but the Ravens could still go up and grab him. Joe Serpico of The Baltimore Wire looks at what it would require to move up to the number four spot to get a player like Ramsey or Myles Jack. It would likely require a third round pick or one of two fourth round picks. Is that too much? Maybe. But it’s not out of the question, despite what the front office would like you to believe.
New Orleans Mourns: ‘No Will’
Peter King of MMQB derives his title from Drew Brees‘ quote about how it will feel like there is something missing when the Saints 2009 Super Bowl team gets together. That something is Will Smith‘s presence. If you haven’t heard, the former Saints defensive end was shot in the back Saturday night in New Orleans after a traffic accident. The incident has brought attention to the city’s struggle with a growing murder rate. We, here in Baltimore, can empathize.
King also delves into the draft. He talked to 10 NFL executives to get a grasp on how front offices are feeling about the draft. Most of them expect Tunsil to go first overall, and they say that the strength of this draft is in the middle. “Twenty-five to 55 is the same player, to me.” This is a weak draft class, for sure, but it’s one for which the Ravens should be happy they have a top 10 pick. The talent really drops off after the first tier of players.
Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. to hold football camp for area youth
Turron Davenport gives an overview of Steve Smith‘s football camp. Smith Sr. will work with the kids through various stations learning the fundamentals of football. Hopefully, Smith Sr. doesn’t teach them how to trash talk or else we’d have a new handful of foul-mouthed receivers running around youth leagues.
The camp will be held June 18-19th and will come at a cost of $149. In addition to learning football, campers will also receive memorabilia. The details are at the link.
Would it make sense for the Ravens to draft a QB?
Clifton Brown of CSN Mid-Atlantic looks at the quarterback situation. Right now, Ryan Mallett appears in line for the backup position. The Ravens could, however, look to find another option in the draft to develop. Reports are that the team has visited with Michigan St. QB Connor Cook, but Cliff doesn’t expect the Ravens to go after a passer before the fourth round. That would all but eliminate Cook. Another option could be Dak Prescott of Mississippi St.
Johnny Manziel says he’s roomies with Von Miller, but is he?
Back during the Ray Rice drama, we had discussions here of whether the TMZ of sports media (besides, you know, TMZ Sports) was Pro Football Talk or ESPN. It looks like ESPN is trying to win that battle. Earlier in the week, Johnny Manziel told TMZ that he was living with Von Miller. According to ESPN sources, that isn’t the case. He’s living with Josh Gordon, a receiver who’s had plenty of his own troubles and is trying to come back from a suspension.
I can’t imagine a worse idea for either player. If you can muster the thought of reading the word “bro” more times than you’d here at a frat party, you should give this a read. Manziel’s sad, self-destructive antics would be somewhat amusing if there weren’t serious domestic abuse allegations thrown his way by his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley. That’s what should concern people, not the partying.
