The Most Cost-Effective Free Agent

Share
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Forsett has been one of the most cost-effective free agent signings since 2011. What is a honey hole? Twenty-five prospects will attend the draft. Clemson DE Lawson has a weak get-off, but he goes to the Ravens in one mock draft. A GIF will make you depressed the Ravens are picking this high in 2016 instead of 2017. We wrap it up by taking a look at a couple of baseball topics.

Which Recent NFL Free Agent Contracts Have Been the Most Cost-Effective

When the Ravens signed Justin Forsett, they probably didn’t expect much besides a serviceable backup. He ended up being by far the most effective back on the team in 2014 and had one of the best seasons for a running back in the league. It should serve as no surprise, then, that he was one of the most cost-effective free agent signings, according to Joe Redemann and numberFire’s Net Expected Points metric. He cost the Ravens $2,491/opportunity (second cheapest) and recorded 42.01 Total Net Expected Points per dollar (first among running backs). Nice.

ITP Glossary: Honey Hole

For those of us who aren’t as affluent in the finer points of football, Inside The Pylon is releasing a series explaining some different terminology. One word they explain is the honey hole. A honey hole is the hole in a cover 2 behind the cornerback and before the safety in a cover 2. Mark Schofield gives a few examples to help explain.

The 25 prospects attending the 2016 NFL Draft

There is a ton of volatility on draft boards this year after the top guys. Boards are completely different across the NFL. A player who may be one team’s 11th rated prospected will be another team’s 50th and vice versa. Which could lead to a number of guys sitting in the green room disappointed. This is the list of the 25 players who could end up feeling the most rejected on day 1.

Kyle Crabb’s 2016 Mock Draft

The NDT Scouting author, who gave his take on the Ravens’ draft this year here at RSR, came out with his mock draft on Monday. In it, he has the Ravens selecting Shaq Lawson. I’m not a big fan of him. You’ll see why underneath Lawson’s RSP Film Room.

However, he very well may be the best pass rusher behind Joey Bosa in this draft. It wouldn’t be all that shocking if the Ravens went that route if they weren’t able to move back.

RSP Film Room No. 78: Clemson DE Shaq Lawson

The RSP Film Room gives very in-depth breakdowns of NFL prospects. I’ll admit – and so will Matt Waldmann, the host of the show – that it isn’t for everyone. Waldmann and his guest Scott Bischoff break down Shaq Lawson in his game against Notre Dame OT Ronnie Stanley. They see a powerful defender with a slow first step and stiff hips.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compared him to Courtney Upshaw. Yikes. Either click the link to visit Waldmann’s site or watch the YouTube video below.

Baseball Topics

New to Ravens Links is the baseball section. I know many of you don’t like baseball at all, so you can feel free to ignore everything past that headline from now on. I’ll be sure to clearly mark it for you and keep it short. Both Derek – who puts together the O’s links over at Eutaw Street Report – and I thought that hey, if Peter King can have eighteen paragraphs where he talks about beer, coffee, and basketball every week, we can put a link or two about our other favorite sport.

Just Enjoy the Ride, Orioles Fans

As Ravens fans, we’ve had our fair share of Negative Nancies and Debbie Downers raining on our parades of winning streaks. The Orioles are no different. In case you’ve missed it, the Orioles are now sitting at 7-0, and Tyler Lombardi of Eutaw Street Report (hey, that’s me!) is tired of people saying, “It won’t last.” That’s what makes it so fun.

We Want More Dylan Bundy!

Now that I’m done linking to articles I wrote, I’ll move on to another Tyler’s take. Dylan Bundy finally saw another appearance after pitching just once in six games before that. It went…okay. He allowed one run and three hits in 2.1 innings. They’ll need more valuable innings out of him from the bullpen if they want to keep their core guys healthy. Tyler Beard of ESR explains.
