Perriman Should Not Influence Ravens’ Draft

No one questions Myles Jack’s ability as a football player but many are questioning his availability given the cartilage issues in his right knee. For the Ravens many believe their bad experience in 2015 with Breshad Perriman will force them to steer clear of Jack. Should they avoid Jack because of Perriman?

NO!

I’ve been hearing over and over from fans and the media that the Ravens won’t risk taking Myles Jack because of their experiences in 2015 with first-round pick Breshad Perriman.

The situations are mutually exclusive.

Perriman didn’t come to Baltimore with an injured knee. That happened on the first day of training camp. Was it unfortunate? Yes! Did the Ravens handle it poorly from a public relations perspective? Absolutely!

Look players get hurt in the NFL. It’s part of the game. What happened on the practice field in Owings Mills will NOT influence the Ravens decision on Myles Jack. What will influence that decision, assuming Jack is available for the Ravens with pick No. 6, is the team’s medical staff.

If they determine that Jack’s injury is manageable and that he can give them 5-8 years, why should Perriman’s injury change that decision? Why should Perriman’s knee prevent the Ravens the opportunity to draft a Pro Bowl talent?

The Ravens pay these doctors handsomely to be on staff. They are on staff in part because the organization trusts them. Whatever they conclude on Jack should not and does not in any way connect to Perriman.

Now if the Ravens make the pick because Jack is a stud and they get the medical green light AND he’s on the board, Ozzie Newsome should not hesitate for a second – not one!

But if it turns out that they erred on Jack’s knee, the fault isn’t Perriman’s nor the pick of Perriman. The fault is that of the doctors.

Similarly if they pass on Jack because the docs say no and he becomes Navarro Bowman, well then that is another personnel problem, isn’t it?

So stop saying the Ravens won’t take the UCLA Bruin because of the Perriman experience.

Doing so makes you sound like you don’t know Jack!
