Monroe and cannabis go hand in hand this offseason. He pens an article to advocate for increased cannabinoid treatment in football. Ravens won’t travel far this season. Urschel rediscovers his passion for the game. Finally, a few OTA highlights from Pitta and Perriman.
Getting Off the T Train
Eugene Monroe‘s cause this offseason has been to implement a less invasive drug policy to allow its players to treat themselves medically with cannabis. This week, he wrote a piece for The Players’ Tribune, and he thoroughly lays out the point of his advocacy. He isn’t asking the NFL to start prescribing cannabis; he’s merely asking them to stop testing for it. In a world that is quickly becoming much more accepting of cannabis, the NFL’s policy is as out of touch as your friends who still buy CDs.
I completely agree with him in his cause, but some of the things that he’s tweeted will make you question his commitment to staying in the NFL. After going back and forth with him on Twitter a few times, I’m starting to think he was just giving the wrong impression. Hopefully, he’s given the right one to the front office.
2016 NFL Schedule: Ravens will travel the third fewest miles
The Ravens have a fortunate travel schedule this year. They have no trips where they’ll travel over 2000 miles, and the third fewest miles in the league. Unfortunately, it’s also the third fewest in the division, so the second most. The Steelers will travel almost 1000 miles fewer than any other team in the league. I would love to complain about the Steelers always getting favoritism, but the opponents are predetermined. The NFL can’t really do anything to change how far a team travels…except when they play an international game. The Bengals fall victim to the London rotation and have to travel over twice as far as any other team in the AFC North.
Back to School
The Ravens were heavily featured on the Players’ Tribune this week. John Urschel has became a regular on the media platform for players. This week, he writes about his time at MIT and how the time he has spent with their football team has reignited his passion for the game. Oh, and he’s doing pretty well in school. His mom should be proud!
