Missing The Baltimore Bullies
Miss organized chaos? So do we!
It fit like a glove but for now, the glove is missing. Press play for more…
If you are from Baltimore you cheer for the underdog. No matter the sport or activity, we embrace the against-all-odds participant in large part, because collectively we are underdogs too! We are mutts. A city of intermingled ethnic neighborhoods rubbing up against each other has created a town of lovable “mutts” – mutts that stick together.
Together we look for solace. Together we are agitated when slighted.
If Good Morning America provides a weather forecast they skip Baltimore in favor of DC and Philadelphia. Big stadium concert tours regularly skip Baltimore. We’re viewed as a contending murder capital of the nation and a cesspool of STD’s and junkies by ignorant outsiders who don’t know any better.
In many ways we are galvanized by the Baltimore Ravens. Whether or not they genuinely don’t get their fair share of respect is inconsequential. We feel Baltimore gets the short end of the stick and that’s all that matters. We harbor a communal chip on our inferiority complexed shoulders.
There was a day when visiting teams came to Baltimore to take on our purple and black cladded bullies. We were tough, determined, resolute, unwavering in our support. We loved that our defense intimidated opponents. Together, we made sure the 12th man did their part as well. Our civic DNA aligned perfectly with the physicality of our defense.
Unfortunately that genetic connectivity is now gone.
The Ravens defense no longer intimidates. At times they now feel intimidated.
Organized chaos is gone. Bend but don’t break is the mantra of defensive coordinator Dean Pees and the mantra doesn’t fit Baltimore. It feels like a dark wool suit on a humid July afternoon.
If we’re lucky things will change in 2016 or Pees will be changed.
This identity crisis has to end.
The current chaos needs to be traded in for the organized variety.
