Cleveland Browns and Buccaneers Pick Up Exciting New Additions
The NFL’s preseason is still a couple of months away and the regular season is scheduled to start in September. Nevertheless, fans are already getting excited, while keeping their eyes on the draft and trade decisions of their favorite teams. Some teams have caused jaws to drop by their moves, while others have given their fans exactly what they want. Just recently, the Cleveland Browns and Buccaneers announced new additions to their teams. The players they selected and their potential impact will be explored in greater depth below.
Ryan Fitzpatrick Heads To The Buccaneers
It would be a lie to suggest Ryan Fitzpatrick had a great season in 2016. In fact, it is safe to say his performance was mediocre at best. At the beginning of the season, Fitzpatrick started as quarterback for the New York Jets. Eventually, he lost that spot to Bryce Petty and for good reason. He only completed 56.6% of his passes. He accumulated 12 touchdowns, but 17 interceptions. Despite an abysmal season, he has found a new home with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers have confirmed they’re willing to give Fitzpatrick another chance in the NFL.
Users of the Football Hedging System agree that Fitzpatrick is unlikely to be a starting quarterback. Instead, he will likely play backup for Jameis Winston. Should anything happen to Winston during the course of the season, the Buccaneers will rely on Fitzpatrick to keep the team afloat.
Cleveland Browns Get Jason McCourty
9-year corner Jason McCourty was recently released from the Tennessee Titans. After the announcement, fans hoped he would join his brother, Devin, with the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition. According to McCourty, the Patriots simply did not need his services. Thankfully, he has found a team that does. That team is the Cleveland Browns. Earlier this week, the announcement was made that the Browns had signed Jason to a 2-year deal. The New York-born defensive back should fit in perfectly with Cleveland.
Browns Pick Up Two More
The Cleveland Browns have taken serious steps to bolster their team for the upcoming season. They signed a contract with number one pick Myles Garrett, and another with 3rd round pick Larry Ogunjobi just this week. Before becoming the overall number 1 draft pick, Myles Garrett played defensive end with Texas A&M. He started with the team for 3-years and racked up 31 sacks and 141 tackles. Garrett weighs in at 272 pounds and stands 6-foot-4-inches tall. He is a massive figure and the Browns hope he will prove to be a massive force for their team in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Ogunjobi was selected as the team’s 5th draft pick. He is among two defensive tackles selected by the Brown during this year’s draft. During his college career, Larry made a name for himself while playing at North Carolina-Charlotte. The 305-pound defensive tackle is expected to wear the number 65 when he steps on the field in a Cleveland Browns uniform. The two new additions to the Browns’ lineup should give fans hope that they’ll prevail over rivals this season.
