Marlon Humphrey is a complete corner who has shown a top-end ability to defend the boundary and the versatility to work in the slot. He’s a capable blitzer and supports the run defense with sound tackling. Marlon has also shown an ability to lock down some of the AFC North’s premier receivers, and let’s not forget that he possesses a developing knack for creating turnovers. Availability is key at the corner position and as a Raven, Marlon has proven that he has it, having played in 49 of a possible 51 regular season games.
The deal is likely to bump his 2020 cap number slightly but lower his 2021 number which had been $10.244M. That’s needed relief in a year (2021) during which the cap will drop by $23M+ due to the financial ramifications of COVID-19.
Piecing together the early numbers on the Humphrey ext, the 5 yr, $98.75M amount that is being reported is the new money average for the 5 added yrs. Humphrey was already due $2.081M in 2020 & $10.244M, so the total over the 7 years is approx. $111M ($15.857M/yr).

2/ So, unless he received no signing bonus & a min salary, there's no other way to create $1M in Cap space. If, for instance, he received a $10M bonus and a $1M salary, his Cap number would go up by approximately $1M.

Glad we locked Fruit Punch up for cheap. I was scared the DeAndre Hopkins deal was going to drive skill position contracts through the roof. Now go ahead and let Matt Judon walk and apply that saved 18-19 mil per year to Stanley.

So glad to see this handled before the end of the season. Humphrey is a top corner in the league and now he’s being paid like one. In my opinion his contract extension was an even bigger priority than Ronnie Stanley‘s. If the salary cap lowers next year I’m sure Eric DeCosta is already well prepared for that scenario. It’s been quite apparent that the secondary is a major priority under DeCosta’s leadership and it appears that won’t be changing anytime soon.
I’m hoping we’ll be hearing the same about Ronnie Stanley in the very near future.

This is a huge step in the right direction for the Ravens. They simply must lock up their premier young talent, and Humphrey will be one of the top corners in the NFL for a long time.
His ability to lock down outside receivers and take away an entire side of the field sets this defense up for great success down the road. He should continue to grow into an even bigger contributor and leader. All around, this is a phenomenal move.
