Players and fans are eagerly waiting for the new NFL season to begin. A new campaign where the Rams enter as defending champions after having won the Super Bowl against the Bengals earlier this year. Last season’s championship game at the SoFi Stadium was followed by 99.18 million viewers in the US via the NBC broadcast. Despite an impressive number of viewers, the 2022 year’s Super Bowl still falls short compared to the most watched Super Bowl. Next, we’ll provide you with the top 5 most watched Super Bowls of all time.

5. Super Bowl LI (111.32 million viewers)

Houston, Texas, 2017. The Patriots had been hugely impressive throughout the regular season and won all but two games. Boosted by the presence of Tom Brady, the Patriots showed no mercy on their way to the championship game as they sealed comfortable victories over both the Steelers and the Texans in the knockout stages.

Well in the final, the Falcons waited and as the predictions and odds were telling, it was the Patriots who managed to lift the trophy in front of 111.32 million TV viewers.

4. Super Bowl XLVI (111.35 million viewers)

2012’s Super Bowl between the Giants and the Patriots, broadcast on NBC, had an average of 111.35 million viewers. The game ended 21-17 in favor of the Giants which had them lift their fourth ever Super Bowl trophy.

3. Super Bowl 50 (111.86 million viewers)

Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, was the venue for the Super Bowl 50 between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. The Panthers were big favorites going into the game, having only lost one game in the regular season. However, the Broncos turned up for the game and performed an incredible defensive show while exploiting the Panthers weaknesses. The game ended 24-10 in favor of the Broncos and was followed by 111.86 million viewers live via TV.

2. Super Bowl XLVIII (112.19 million viewers)

The second most watched Super Bowl of all time was played in 2014 between the Seahawks and the Broncos. The Broncos entered the game as slight favorites, though this was nothing that scared the Seahawks away. The Seahawks completely blew their opponents off the field and after 4 quarters the board showed 43-8 in favor of the Seahawks. An unexpected outcome watched by 112.19 million viewers through TV.

1. Super Bowl XLIX (114.44 million viewers)

The number one game on the list and the most watched Super Bowl of all time is the Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawk back in 2015. With an average of 114.44 million viewers it’s by far the most watched championship game to have ever been played. The game was won by the Patriots (28-24) and is still today regarded as one of the most entertaining Super Bowls of all time.
