TJ Watt was a beast last night against the Giants. He dominates on a regular basis and last night’s Monday Night affair against the New York Giants was no exception:

Drafted by the Steelers with the 30th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the scouting report overview on Watt read:

“A long-limbed effort rusher who posted impressive numbers against the run and pass in just one year as a starter. He is a tireless worker who pursues from snap to whistle and his brother, J.J., will be a tremendous resource for technique and pass-rush plan. While he is unlikely to win a race to the edge, he’s a plus run defender who can get to the quarterback with plus hand work and relentless effort.”

Scouting reports often compare collegiate players to then current NFL players. Watt’s comparison prior to the 2017 NFL Draft?

A couple of interesting notes on Watt.

There were seven DE/Edge defenders selected before Watt:

• Browns: Myles Garrett (1)
• 49ers: Solomon Thomas (3)
• Cardinals: Haason Reddick (13)
• Eagles: Derek Barnett (14)
• Redskins: Johnathan Allen (17)
• Falcons: Takkarist McKinley (26)
• Cowboys: Taco Charlton (28)

With the 29th pick, their second in Round 1, the Browns selected David Njoku. Njoku has been a solid tight end, but could you even imagine what it might look like if Garrett and Watt lined up along the same defensive front? They could rush three and get to the quarterback.

During the 2017 NFL Draft, the Ravens selected Marlon Humphrey with the 16th overall pick.

Hopefully Marlon will be back this week against the Broncos.

Hopefully the Ravens will add an edge rusher soon.

Hopefully Eric DeCosta can add a competent safety.

Hopefully Marcus Williams will emerge from the Harbaugh doghouse, rejuvenated and true to his form in 2022.

Hope springs eternal.
