OTL: All Ravens Snubbed at NFL Honors

Thursday night was the NFL Honors show, which means it is now time to come straight with the facts: Lamar Jackson is good:

Despite the tongue-in-check humor, unfortunately, in a shocking upset, there would be no on this night.

This is the part of the article where I complain about how this doesn’t make sense since Lamar Jackson was named first-team All-Pro at quarterback, yet didn’t win the MVP, losing it to another player at the same position. That’s where this is going?

Well, honestly, I don’t care in the end. I don’t need a third MVP to tell me how good Jackson is. Maybe this is just the animosity toward the Ravens I now have leaking over after the millionth early playoff exit. Still, I genuinely don’t have the energy to debate this award. Jackson and Allen were both excellent and carried their respective teams.

And though Torrey has a point here…

The fact is that I just can’t get myself all worked up about it.

Jackson is one of the greatest quarterbacks who has stepped on the gridiron, and there isn’t much debate about that. Also, a massive shoutout to Todd Monken for putting Lamar in an offense that doesn’t limit him and to the Ravens for keeping Monken around. There are no worries about what this offense can accomplish next year with that stability, and we might see more MVPs to Jackson’s name if this continues. We don’t need a third MVP to know how good Lamar was this year. If you want to debate, go right ahead. There are valid reasons to do so, but I couldn’t care less.

Jackson wasn’t the only snub last night though, as neither Marshal Yanda nor Terrell Suggs will be first-ballot Hall of Famers, and Steve Smith Sr. lost out again in his third year of eligibility.

This is why the Ravens need to get over the hump. Take all these subjective honors out of the hands of others, and state your objective case by winning a Super Bowl.

Speaking of, to take your mind off the Super Bowl that no one outside of two fan bases wants and the MVP debates, here is another exciting edition of Mock Draft Friday:

Let’s get this out of the way: I was shocked Mike Green was available here. There is no way he will be available in real life at 27, and it is nuts that I got him to fall. Weird stuff happens on Draft night, though, and Green is excellent. Don’t let the fact that this guy played at a small school fool you; this man is a machine and would finally give the Ravens a true number one option at edge and a fear factor:

While he is shorter, he has great power to set up offensive tackles for his speed rush, which is his fastball. The only problem is his arm length which could be the reason he falls. Personally, I don’t think it is that big of a deal, considering how he bulked up for the Senior Bowl, but NFL teams can have thresholds that need to be met, which could allow the Ravens to prosper.

While it says OT on Wyatt Milum’s card, he will move inside to play guard for the Ravens. He has good strength and is a good enough athlete; the problem is he over-sets a ton, and we saw him lose more in the 1-on-1 at the Senior Bowl because of it:

With that said, he has all the intangibles to be an awesome Guard in the NFL, and you see it in his core strength and the ability to move people in the run game.

Turner is a weird case because of his pre-draft process. He was awesome in 2023 but played hurt in 2024. That injury has lingered and caused him to not only tap out of the Senior Bowl, but apparently he is only doing interviews at the combine and is only working out at his Pro Day. That makes his evaluation a little tough, but he is still a good run defender and has pass-rush ability. He is definitely a pick for the future. Belton is actually similar to Milum, but I think Belton is going to stick at Tackle before Milum so he gets taken as a tackle instead. Jordan Phillips is becoming a mainstay on these Mock Drafts, but I can’t help it. He is always available. He is only 20 and the type of talent you bet on late. Justin Walley really reminds me of former Raven Tavon Young. He is a demon from the Nickel and while he doesn’t have the physical ability to play outside, he can be a baller from Slot/Nickel. Frazier and Mondon are good depth at their position. We got another Maryland player with Trader, and Nash and Oladejo are also good depth.

One critique I have is that I wish I had chosen a full-time Tackle in this draft. While I personally believe Belton can do it, I do wish we didn’t have that worry in this version of both of my tackles ending up being better guards.

  1. These thoughts passed through my mind earlier this morning. Don’t much care that Lamar didn’t win his THIRD regular season MVP. It’s now meaningless. He’s gone to such a level that the MVP is a joke. I just can’t wait to see what he looks like next season when he continues to improve and evolve.

The fact that the Ravens were snubbed in all last night, regular season awards and the HOF voting, is a bit disturbing. A few thoughts come to mind. What criteria do the voters use to make their decisions. Also is there a bias towards the Ravens because Modell was once the owner and moved the team to Baltimore.

The Draft? I’ve done many a mock draft and have come up with many different drafts. Some good, some not so good, some heavy offense, and some heavy defensively. I will admit no matter what the outcome I always try to spread the picks around. It’s not easy and it’s just mock drafts. My point is I am impressed with how successful EDC has been with his overall drafts. It’s a tough job.

Finally I can’t wait until next season already. Our season may be over but there’s much to look forward next season. I can’t wait to see the growth of the offense with Lamar, Todd, and the King leading the offense. Hopefully we add some more talent/depth in the draft. It’ll be interesting to see how the defense looks in Orr’s second year, especially with the coaching additions.

The Super Bowl has become a popularity contest for the NFL. They push the game/teams in the way they think will keep the most eyes on the game. NFL=Not for long. Hopefully we see the end of the Chiefs streak and the league decides to move on. I wouldn’t count on it. Let’s go 2025-26.

  2. Lamar was the only real surprise. Yes, he should have won it, but was a victim of voter fatigue and possibly some voters preference for a quarterback “who looks the part”. Feel free to interpret that as you wish, but I know what it means to me.

Yanda was unlikely to make it on the first ballot, because he played perhaps the least sexy position in football. He will be there soon.

Suggs had a better shot, but ironically probably blew his first ballot chances by brandishing a gun at Starbucks. Maybe Suggs, a player I absolutely loved watching, needs to back off the caffeine a bit. He will also get in, but they weren’t going to let him waltz in after his display of Typical Baltimore Thuggery /s.

  3. You can’t get worked up about the MVP But I can. First I made around 2k off Allen winning so I’m not completely upset but MVP is very much a narrative award which makes this a STAIN on the NFL. Because we know who voted for Allen, Allen the Orlovskys,, Achos,Simms etc Friends of Allen who were on weekly crusade and made it known they were voting Allen pretty much as a career achievement/PITY VOTE.. it doesn’t matter how impressive and historical Lamar season was or how many playoff teams he beat! They were stealing from his Legacy! For PITY MVP Allen. It’s embarrassing look for the league

  4. Whoo! That Mike Green dude looks beastly and if he lasts until 27 and the Ravens are interested, then to quote my guy Grady Wilson, from Sanford and Son: “Good goobly goo!

I am also highly interested in these two particular players, personally: Nick Emmanwori, safety from South Carolina and Jihaad Campbell, ILB, Alabama.

    Go Ravens!
