Torrey Smith’s Service to Baltimore

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Every so often a player comes along to your favorite sports franchise who is very difficult to say goodbye to when the time comes.

The NFL is a business, which is all too often forgotten in the hearts of fans.

Such was the case Sunday night when wide receiver Torrey Smith penned his blog saying his goodbyes to Baltimore.

As we all saw, the announcement took Ravens Nation by storm.

The former Maryland Terp will not return to the Ravens in 2015, opting instead to test the waters of NFL free agency.

We will never forget Torrey Smith’s service to the Baltimore community

In celebration of Torrey’s tenure, here’s a look back at some of Torrey Smith’s best moments off the field since he donned the purple and black:

In February of 2014, Torrey dedicated a reading oasis at Dickey Hill Elementary and Middle Schools in an effort to improve literacy in Baltimore-area schools. The program focused on providing age-appropriate books and a comfortable place to read them.

2014 proved to be a year of battling adversity for the Ravens. As tough as it was for Torrey Smith to address the Ray Rice incident, Smith never shied away from speaking about his friend and former teammate.

The Smith family played the role of Santa and delivered a much needed Christmas for 8 pre-selected families from local area shelters back in December at the Fallston Walmart.

There were many other community events Torrey Smith and his foundation took part in over the years here in Baltimore and surrounding areas. He’s hosted charity basketball games, Thanksgiving dinners to those in need, all in effort to make Maryland a better place.

Say what you want about his on the field production but in the grand scheme of things his off the field kindness to others is truly second to none.
